I will share one of mine to start us off....
One of our favorite things to do while we have lived here in Kansas is to take leisurely strolls. One particular stroll turned out more memorable than all the others. Brad took Bronson and Avery on a walk around our beautiful apartment community. When they reached the pond, they noticed a mother duck and several babies waddling behind her. They were headed right for the fence which separates us from a very busy 4 lane trafficway. The mother duck proceeded to go under the fence and all babies followed as they headed for the busy road. "Dad you have to save the ducks! Don't let them go into the road. They'll die!!", said Bronson. "Yeah Dad, save the ducks!", yelled Avery. So, my tall dark and handsome studley manly warrior of a husband jumps the fence to save the ducks. The only problem is that the ducks have already headed into the street. So, the said manly warrior, in all his shining glory, runs out into the middle of the 50 mph oncoming traffic and stops the cars coming at the poor little duckies. That's right friends, the cars have come to a complete halt so that a mother and her babies can cross the road without getting smushed, ducks that is. Even though he doesn't want to, the manly warrior decides to glance into the faces of the people in the cars that he has stopped. To his surprise, the front two cars have middle-aged women who are covering their mouths and shaking their heads. They smile and give him heartwarming glances while mouthing, "how cute", and "oh, how sweet!" Once the ducks reach the median, studley manly warrior halts traffic coming from the opposite direction and leads the ducks safely to the other side. As he started back to where he left the kids he could see their huge smiles and clapping little hands. "Good job Daddy! You did it. You saved the duckies!" And to the hero, that made it all worth it. Not to mention how proud his lovely maiden at home was when she heard the whole story!!
The contest will end at midnight on Dec. 12th. If there are enough great comments I may decide to have up to 3 winners. Good luck everyone!!!

Yay me! I'm first!!! Oh, the cuteness! I can just picture Brad saving the ducks! Too sweet! Okay, here's mine. Several weeks ago, we had an insanely strong wind blow through during a blizzard. We didn't get much snow (I think it all blew East with the crazy wind), but in the wake of the blast, our swingset was toppled and twisted to the point that it looked like we would have to buy a new one this summer. Last week there were some unseasonably warm days during which we were able to go outside and play. Unfortunately, there was no way we could use the swingset. Enter my parents for the holiday. One of those warm evenings, my sister, Catherine was outside with the kids on the deck. Caroline said "I want to swing, Cathy, fix it!" To which Catherine replied that she couldn't. Caroline said "Well, then Papa will fix it. Papa can, I KNOW he can!" And off she went to find him. Long story short, he fixed it and even tethered the whole swingset down to avoid anymore tumbles this winter. Oh, the confidence my sweet little girl has in her "Papa"! It reminded me of my grandpas and all the things they did to make me happy as a little girl. How grateful I am for grandparents and the sweet memories we have of them!
Millie, that is a really cute memory! Thanks for sharing.
Your blog is always so adorable! I love hearing all the fun things you guys are up to. Here's mine. It happened just this morning when I took Natalie with me to an ultrasound. The technician showed us that we are for sure having a girl (which we already knew). Natalie looked at the picture with her eyes wide and exclaimed, "Mom, the baby is naked!" I love little children!
Hahaha! LeiAnn that is too funny.
That was hilarious! I could just picture Brad not wanted to let the kids down. He always seemed to be the super hero type. If he were my dad I would have thought he was the coolest bravest Dad ever!
Shannon, you will have to buy Brad the book, 'Make Way For Ducklings' for Christmas. It is basically his experience only with a policeman instead of a brave civilian. Very cute.
ok i totally wants some truffles..and have so many memories of 2008...and so many funny stories...how about you pick one from my blog :) haha is that cheating??
I guess one of the biggest memories is selling our house, packing all our belongings into storage and moving to the most remote island in the world,,,Hawaii..bet you didn't know it was the most remote but it is! cool huh...
So many memories...cna I think about it and come back?
What a cute idea, and what a sweet story! My story is about my summer there in Kansas. I had a rough winter before we moved there. Dan was super busy with school, to the point that I didn't see him at all. During this time Kimberly had RSV & Caitlyne was fighting bronchitis. It was terrible. I was so excited to leave Notre Dame for the summer so I could just get away from my terrible winter. And then Dan announced we were moving to Kansas for his internship--how was that getting away?? I wasn't exactly thrilled. Then we moved there. It was beautiful! I felt like I was at "home." The first Sunday in our ward made it even better! I was so excited when you invited me to attend a surprise birthday party for Caroline. I couldn't believe that you hardly knew me & invited me to the party. It was so much fun coming to the party and meeting all the awesome ladies in the ward. That night there was also a TERRIBLE storm outside. Earlier during the week we had had a funnel cloud above the Overland Park Golf course, and lightning had struck a gas storage facility & burned for a few days. So when this storm started, of course me being new to tornadoes, I started to panic. But the panic didn't last long. Everyone there calmed my fears. We played games, enjoyed 31 flavors of ice cream and enjoyed each others company. I really needed that. You all helped me have one of the best summers of my life. I loved participating in the book club discussions, our Tuesday play group adventures, going to the crown center and attending other dinners/parties for girls in the ward. While the summer didn't work out for a job for our family, it answered my prayers that our family would have a great summer. It was so hard to leave. But it really was an answer to my prayers and helped re-charge me to come back and finish this last year of school. It was amazing how over the course of 13 weeks I completely fell in love with Kansas, and made life long friends. Thank you so much for your help in that! I will never forget the awesome summer that we spent there.
That is the cutest story! Sorry if I go for the obvious, but I would have to say the most memorable moment of this year came on September 3rd. That morning I gave birth to my first daughter. With each child I amazed at how much I can love each one without diminishing my love for the others. Amy Marie is the sweetest little baby and she makes everyone smile. I really feel blessed to have her in our family.
Brad, you are such a strong, capable duckie hero. We are all proud! What is great and so important is that your kids will remember that when they are grown ups. You could organize a fantastic church talk around that story, about poor innocent duckies being led unknowingly into dangerous territory..
Anyway, I will think of a good story from our family to share.
Chrissy
Lisa, I didn't know about that book! I'll have to try and find it. That is so funny. Don't forget to share a memory.
Corinne, if you want some truffles you have to share a memory on here and I'm not going to search your blog for one! Hahaha!!
Shanda, this was very touching, and I'm so glad we got to become friends for the short time you were here. Maybe you'll come back someday!!
Shannon, this is a great idea! I love truffles!
One of my favorite memories of this year is of my little Jacob's absolute determination to show just how big he is. One day while we were in Costco, Jacob started getting really fussy being trapped in the cart. Tony and I decided to let him get down. Of course, he just took off running down the aisle. Once we caught him we had him hold on to the cart to try and keep him from being trampled by other shoppers. He decided that just holding on to the cart wasn't enough and started to push the giant Costco-sized shopping cart. He loved it! We were so surprised, especially because the cart contained three bags of water-softener salt! He was completely content to push and push while Tony steered. At one point he saw someone else's cart and happily pushed it away while they were getting something out of the freezer section. Since that day, Jacob is not content to sit in the cart and will insist on doing his self-appointed job of pushing the cart. It is so amazing what a little guy (not even a year) can do!
Oh, that's so sweet and it's perfect with the sweet music in the back. I think you need to keep one of those boxes for you & your husband to share!
Anita, that is the cutest story! I can just see little tiny Jacob pushing around an 80 lb shopping cart!
I love the story!! What a gentle guy! I'll have to think of a story.....There is just so many great memories!
This year I have had so many funny, memorable experiences. I would have to say that this is one of my top: At church I was enjoying the hour that women meet together (Relief Society) when my friend Holly who helps with the children's classes opened the door pointed to me and mouthed "CALEB". I hurried out and was informed by her that Caleb had gum stuck on him and wanted me to help. As we continued to walk she told me that he had said it was stuck to his bum. She said that he wouldn't let anyone help him and he kept asking for me. Unbelievable! This was definitely the funniest reason I have ever been called out of relief society. I went and picked up Caleb from his classroom. We went into the hallway. "Mom," he said, "I have gum stuck to my bum." I decided to observe the damage. I looked at his pants, and couldn't find the gum anywhere. I pulled his shorts down a little because there was a part of the pants that looked pinched together. "Ow that hurts!" He said. Still I couldn't see the gum. But there was some definite sticking action going on. Then I realized the gum wasn't stuck on the outside it was stuck on the inside! We decided we should go somewhere else to see where the sticky gum had hidden itself. I asked Caleb how the gum got into his pants, he didn't know. I think he didn't tell me because he knows that if his gum comes out of his mouth it goes in the garbage. Anyway once we were alone I assessed the damage. The gum had stuck to his bum cheek, his inner thigh, his underwear, and his plaid shorts. He must have been really uncomfortable. I can just picture him squirming in his seat trying to see if the gum would dislodge itself. Poor kid! Well we decided we should go home. All the way home he kept his hand in between the pants and his bum trying to prevent it sticking to his bum again. After a bath and 30 minutes of intense gum removal Caleb was finally gum free. I informed him that there would be no more gum at church. Much to my surprise he readily agreed. I guess some lessons are better learned through experience. I will always wonder how it is that gum was able to end up on the opposite end from where it should be chewed!
Kristen, I read about this on your blog. Sooo funny!!
I know, sorry it is a repeat, but I have to admit I have blogged most of my memorable experiences. Hopefully some of your friends will find it entertaining:)
My story is on my blog entitled "Mr. Frog"
Jackie that was such a cute story with drawings and all!!
